Why rent a car in Keflavik?

Car rental in Keflavik with no deposit is the easiest way to start your Iceland trip the moment you land. Taxis from Keflavík International Airport are expensive and buses run on fixed timetables, while the most beautiful places of Iceland are far from any bus stop. With your own car you decide where to stop, how long to stay and when to chase the northern lights.

  • Cheaper than taxis: one taxi ride from KEF to Reykjavik costs about the same as a full day of car rental.
  • Freedom of movement: visit the Blue Lagoon, the Reykjanes peninsula and the Golden Circle on your own schedule.
  • No deposit, no credit card: rent a car for cash or by debit card, nothing is blocked on your account.
  • Guaranteed model: you drive the car you booked from our own fleet, not "or similar".
  • Additional insurance: full coverage, gravel and sand and ash protection for real peace of mind.
  • Delivery all over Iceland: our driver meets you at Keflavik Airport and hands over the car right after you land, or brings it to any address in Iceland.
  • Free cancellation: plans changed? Cancel up to 24 hours before pickup at no cost.

We landed late at night and the car was waiting right at Keflavik Airport. No deposit, no credit card, I paid the rest with my debit card in two minutes. The Toyota Yaris was spotless.

Very easy online booking with only 20% prepaid. Pickup at the hotel in Keflavik was on time. The only minus is that the car had a bit of road dust, but everything worked perfectly.

I do not have a credit card and most companies refused me. Keflavik Car Hub accepted cash at pickup and there was no deposit at all. Highly recommended.

Our family of six rented a minivan. Child seats were already installed, the car was new and the return at the airport took five minutes.

Cheap price compared to the big brands at KEF and unlimited mileage. Free cancellation helped when our flight changed. Will book again.

Traffic Rules, Parking and Fuel in Keflavik

Traffic Rules

Iceland has strict traffic rules and the police use speed cameras across the country, so keep these key points in mind when driving from Keflavik.

  • Drive on the right and overtake on the left; seat belts are mandatory for all passengers.
  • Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns, 80 km/h on gravel roads and 90 km/h on paved roads outside towns.
  • Headlights must be switched on at all times, day and night, all year round.
  • Off-road driving is strictly prohibited and fines can reach ISK 500,000.
  • The blood alcohol limit is 0.02%, so in practice do not drink at all before driving.
  • At single-lane bridges (Einbreið brú) the car that reaches the bridge first has priority.
  • F-roads (mountain roads) are open only in summer and only for 4x4 vehicles.
